Spiritually Fit

It’s the beginning of the year, which means it is time to reflect on the past and to think through what the future can hold. As many people do, I set New Year’s resolutions, goals that I want to accomplish in the year to come. Every year my main overarching goal is health, I want to be a healthier person in the new year than in the year before. I recognize that the word healthy means different things to different people and it can apply to so many parts of our lives. In fact, in my own life, I have sought health in a variety of different contexts. But through it all, when I talk about pursuing health, I am fundamentally talking about becoming the person that God created me to be. Every year this pursuit looks a little different as the places that need the most attention in my life change, but I believe that as a follower of Christ, I cannot be healthy without a connection to God, my source of life.

For me, pursuing health this year includes striving towards goals in physical, emotional, and spiritual fitness.  I am not a subject matter expert in physical or emotional fitness, so I’ve spent a lot of time lately googling exercise plans and considering the importance of emotional health. But, as far as spiritual fitness goes, I have over a decade of experience in studying and practicing spiritual disciplines. Practicing a spiritual discipline is about creating moments in our busy lives to connect with God and strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you are interested in seeking spiritual health in 2019, I challenge you to add it to your list of resolutions. I promise that you won’t regret it.

If you are looking for some ideas to get you started, you are in the right place. Throughout January, I will be blogging about best practices, key focus areas, and providing weekly fitness challenges to help you become spiritually fit.
